“Movin’ Right Along…”

Written by Susan Russo

The Theresa Academy continues to grow both in enrollment as well as space! Renovations were completed in time for the fall opening of classes. We doubled the size of the Art Room and the Black Box Theater. Both spaces serve as multi-purpose rooms during camp, as well as our Saturday Morning Respite program.

TAPA Summer Camp Enriched All Of Us

Written by Elizabeth Meyers

TWO SESSIONS of the TAPA summer camp were held this year. Through the gracious donation of his Theresa Foundation Award, New York State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, known for his dedication to the special needs community, donated his gift to provide scholarships for Long Beach Public School students, to attend TAPA, thus enabling those students to attend who otherwise would have been unable.

New York State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (left) was honored recently with the 2010 Theresa Award for his outstanding contributions
to persons with special needs, presented by Robert Russo (right) member of the Board of Directors of the Theresa Foundation. Harvey Weisenberg
has represented Long Beach in the New York State Assembly since 1989. For over 20 years, he has been dedicated to removing barriers, improving
access and enhancing the quality of life for all people with physical and mental challenges.

In this spirit of inclusivity, Harvey has decided to contribute his $5,000 dollar award donation to the Theresa Foundation. As a result, The
Theresa Board of Directors created a special scholarship program in Harvey’s name so that children in the Long Beach City School District
who would otherwise be unable, have the opportunity to attend the Theresa Academy of Performing Arts. “True to his character, Harvey
honors us by giving back and we are grateful, and truly excited for this program,” said Robert Russo.

Eagle Scout, William Misitano (second from left) made the Theresa Foundation his final project. William designed and built planters and benches for the Theresa Building in Lido Beach, New York, and designed and constructed a huge flower garden for the north side of the building. TAPA summer campers were able to enjoy the flowers and benches during camp this past summer. A BIG thanks goes out to William and his crew of fellow scouts for beautifying the Theresa Building and grounds!
